RF Radiation Reduction in Triacs and Thyristors

Using PISCES and a circuit simulator triacs and thyristors operating at room temperature and 200 C with reduced RF radiation emission satisfying the European radiations norms were designed for Beacon. Four invention disclosures were reported. (Veng Chong Lau, Chih Ju Hung, Patrick Roblin)

Accurate simulation of Electro-Thermal Transient in Thyristors

A novel distributed electro-thermal model of thyristors for very accurate transient simulations of power circuits was developed. The model which uses a physical topology relies on a table representation using B-Spline for its speed and accuracy. (Chih Ju Hung, Patrick Roblin)

(A) The simulated device temperature profile, (B) device current waveform, (C) device voltage waveform, and (D) device power dissipation obtained from a electrothermal transient simulation using our model implemented in a circuit simulator (plain line) and PISCES (x). Figures (E) and (F) show the DC characteristics of the test SCR for various gate current (E) and temperatures from 25 C to 205 C (F) as obtained using PISCES (x) and fitted with our device model (plain line). %
