What Was the Wheelchair Ramp Project?

ECOS was put in contact with a handicapped Columbus woman who is in need of a wheelchair ramp in order to safely and independently gain entry and exit to her home, located on the Northeast side of Columbus, OH.  This woman was identified with the help of contacts in the OSU Medical Center.  ECOS drew up and got a design approved that was in accordance with Columbus city code.  A crew of students and professors was assembled for the construction of the ramp. 

Wheelchair Ramp Design

Design Parameters:

  1. Ramp Location – Northeast side of Columbus, OH
  2. The ramp will run approximately west from the existing rear porch (23” above grade) to a concrete landing
  3. The ramp will not exceed a 1:12 slope
  4. Ramp design, materials and construction practices will conform to all City of Columbus (Ohio) guidelines and regulations
  5. All metal fasteners will be galvanized and will meet all City of Columbus (Ohio) guidelines and regulations
  6. All lumber will be treated and will meet all City of Columbus (Ohio) guidelines and regulations
