The mission of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) is to ensure the reliability of the bulk power system in North America. NERC develops and enforces reliability standards for control centers to monitor the bulk power system, and to assure the stability of the US interconnected grid system, consisting of a number of regional reliability centers. In this paper, a methodology for the future, cyber smart bulk power grid has been proposed. The system consists of many small power grids and microgrid systems. As a case study, a control strategy is presented for the single-phase inverter used in smart microgrid systems. The objective of control design is to achieve low THD output voltage, fast transient response, and asymptotic tracking of the reference output voltage.
