ABSTRACT: This technical report describes the design, implementation and testing of a system that improves its returnability characteristics. The system consists in a pair of control valves, that, added to a modified power steering system, create a pressure shift on the power steering system when proper commands are issued.

A power steering system is experimented and modeled in this research. Using the power steering model, several designs of Return-to-Center systems are taken into consideration and simulated. An experimental setup is designed and built to prove the functionality of the concept, using off-the-shelf components. The tests on the setup show that the theoretical concept functions, but further development is necessary for automotive use. The design of such system, that would achieve performance and safety in a vehicle is then presented.
